The Alberta Field Project is a collaboration of scientific researchers looking at Spring precipitation within the Canadian foothills. The project will run from March - April of 2015 and is funded under the Changing Cold Regions Network (CCRN).
Major precipitation events occur in the Banff/Calgary area that are a critical aspect of the region's water cycle and they can lead to major disasters such as the 2013 flooding. Such events can bring rain, snow or both to the area and there have been no atmospheric-oriented special observations of these events beyond those made with operational networks.
