After some time troubleshooting with the parsivel (laser-optical disdrometer), a few resistors, a great team of scientists and a simple switch of wires, the parsivel is now properly functioning - HOORAY! Apart from the parsivel, the morning was also busy transporting the 12 helium cylinders to the trailer.
Before lunch we visited the field site where we met with Craig from the Kananaskis Emergency Services team and determined where we would park our office (trailer) for the project. The instrumentation will be set-up in the field adjacent to the fire hall, on wooden platforms. It was determined that the trailer would be used for inflating the weather balloons and as storage for the computers collecting the data.
After our meeting with Craig and all the logistics of the operation were discussed, our team split and various jobs were delegated. We left Bruce, our Environment Canada technician to start started installing the instruments. Ida and myself headed off to Canmore in search of items required for the installation of the instruments, while Dr. Theriault continued on setting up the second parsivel.
Here's a sneak peak...
